RM1700 Minimum Wage System FAQs are out !

The Minimum Wage Order (PGM) is an essential policy implemented in Malaysia to ensure fair remuneration for workers.

Established under the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011, the minimum wage aims to meet the basic needs of employees and their families, provide social protection, enhance productivity through technological investment, and reduce dependence on unskilled foreign workers.


The most recent PGM, effective from 1 February 2025, sets the minimum wage at RM1,700 per month.


最低工资令(PGM)是马来西亚实施的一项重要政策,旨在确保工人的公平报酬。

根据2011年国家工资咨询委员会法案建立,最低工资旨在满足员工及其家庭的基本需求,提供社会保护,通过技术投资提高生产力,减少对非熟练外国工人的依赖。

最新的PGM将于2025年2月1日生效,最低工资定为每月RM1,700。

1. What is the definition of “minimum wage”?
The minimum wage is defined as the basic salary, excluding allowances, incentives, or any additional payments to employees.

2. When will the PGM take effect?
The implementation date is 1 February 2025, for employers with five or more employees and professional activities. For all employers, it will be effective from 1 August 2025.

3. What is the minimum wage rate?
The minimum wage is set at RM1,700 per month.

4. Does the PGM apply to all workers?
Yes, the PGM applies to all employees, including non-citizen workers in the private sector, except for domestic workers and apprentices.

5. What happens if an employer does not comply with the PGM?
Employers who fail to comply may face penalties up to RM10,000 for each employee for first offenses.
